Some wanker on Facebook/Youtube/Soundcloud stole a bunch of my boyfriend’s music. Patrick is a nice guy and usually puts his songs up for download when he’s done them because he just likes to share stuff and not make money off it. This guy has already been selling one song on iTunes and is releasing an EP with two of his other songs. Nothing about them has changed; he could have easily downloaded and re-uploaded and called it his own. He wrote a pretty rude status on his Facebook page claiming that Soundcloud has already settled the dispute and the songs rightfully belong to him (other guy, not Patrick). Friends and fans of Patrick’s have been posting on this guy’s stuff and saying it isn’t his all morning, and he was quick to delete almost everything.
I’m really frustrated because I KNOW he didn’t steal the other guy’s music. They ARE Patrick’s songs. I was there when he cut and resampled every vocal track, created every bass, pieced together every synth melody. I am always there for feedback and I love his music. I am angry that somebody could do this and possibly get away with it. I consider myself an artist and I know the dangers of people taking photos, artwork, music, and countless other things online and claiming them as their own. People spend time and energy and resources and creativity on their art, and somebody else can come along and make profit and not have to lift a finger. It’s disgusting. Somebody please tell me stories about how justice was served to people who stole art. Or reblog and tell everybody you know that Jack Howes is a liar and a thief. IDK. I’m just really upset.
